Museum of the History of Medicine of the University of Ioannina
Founded in 1995 and inaugurated on June 1, 2018, in Ioannina, Greece. It serves as a center for the preservation, research, and promotion of the history of medicine from antiquity to the present day. The museum houses over 20,000 objects displayed across 12 to 14 exhibition spaces. Its collection includes significant artifacts from antiquity, such as Dioscorides depictions of pharmaceutical plants and herbs used today, a small chapel with icons of 65 doctors and female physicians as saints, coins, banknotes, medical cartoons, and a complete collection of 450 Greek stamps with medical themes. The museum was initiated by Professor Stefanos Geroulanos, who also curated the collection. It is the first museum of its kind in Greece and is part of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ioannina. The museum is accessible by appointment and is located within the Medical School building.
